Selin Sakarcan is a podiatric physician, foot and ankle surgeon, and medical resident.  During her time at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, she served as the student body president while being a House Delegate of the American Podiatric Medical Student Association. She was recently accepted to the Harvard Macy Institute for the 2020 Program for Postgraduate Trainees: Future Academic Clinician Educators. Selin was also the president of the Turkish Student Association and a public relations officer at the American Medical Student Association at Temple University. At present, the podiatric physician is working on establishing a nonprofit in New Haven, Connecticut, called Back On My Feet.

Raised in a Turkish-American home, Selin Sakarcan learned both English and Turkish. However, her love for languages didn’t stop there. She learned French in school and decided to pursue it as her major in college and neuroscience, focusing on cellular and molecular neuroscience.  Growing up, she spent most of her childhood in Texas, Louisiana, and South Carolina. Prior to her medical residency in New Haven, Connecticut, she lived in Philadelphia for 10 years.

Besides her medical career and love for languages, Selin Sakarcan is also an athlete and an avid marathoner. She has participated in the Disney Princess Half Marathon, Lululemon SeaWheeze 2020 Half Marathon, Philadelphia Marathon Weekend, and Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathons.  She is also into sports such as tennis, lacrosse, dance, gymnastics, and swimming. Selin was part of the state champions team for tennis at her alma mater, Harrington High School.

On this page, Selin Sakarcan will share her knowledge on podiatric medicine, health, fitness, and sports. These days, it’s important for people to prioritize physical health.  More than just feeling well, people also must be aware of the condition of their legs, foot, and ankle.  These body parts are among the most used in day-to-day tasks, and they deserve extra care and treatment.  Those with pre-existing conditions also need to take extra care of their lower extremities as neglecting this body part can lead to injuries and complications.  No matter the physical condition, an individual must take time to take care of their feet and ankles just as much as they take care of the other parts of the body.

Besides podiatry, Selin Sakarcan will also share her knowledge of sports medicine, personal training, running, and swimming. Through these posts, she aims to encourage others to stay active as they look after their well-being.
